String Practice Duality Guide

If String Theory Exists, then String Practice is Inevitable

In string theory, the smallest building blocks of the Universe are envisioned as tiny vibrating strings rather than particles of waves. Imagine them like microscopic violin strings. The way a string vibrates determines what kind of particle it appears as: an electron, a photon, even gravity. So instead of different kinds of particles, there’s just one basic object — the string — and its vibration creates the diversity of the universe.

 “Extra” Dimensions

String theory says that space actually has more dimensions, usually 10 total (9 space + 1 time). These extra dimensions are not visible because they are compactified — curled up so small that they escape detection, like threads tightly wound into the fabric of reality. M-theory, a more complete version of string theory, says there are actually 11 dimensions.

M-Theory

M-theory is a proposed "mother" theory that ties all the different string theories together. It includes not just strings, but also higher-dimensional objects called "branes" (short for membranes). So instead of just tiny strings, it includes sheets, volumes, and beyond. Physicists don’t yet have the full rules for M-theory — it's a work in progress — but they know it requires 11 dimensions and naturally includes gravity. It's currently the best candidate for a theory of everything: one framework that unites all the forces and particles of nature.

I simply turned it into the Brain, where there is a container and 12 dimensions , making the totality of String Practice an experession of U Duality. I am a sneaky, clever girl ;-)

The Five String Archetypes

          Name                                            Key Feature

Type I                   Has open and closed strings

Type IIA               Non-chiral, closed strings only

Type IIB               Chiral, closed strings only

Heterotic SO(32) Hybrid: bosonic ⬄ supersymmetric

Heterotic E₈×E₈ Another hybrid form, with exceptional symmetry group

Type I: Has both open and closed strings; includes gravity and forcecarrying particles.

Balanced. Reflective. Capable of the same gesture in both directions.

It’s a system with mirror logic — what happens on one side is possible on the other. You turn a wheel, it spins the same way forward or back.

Type II Strings are Double Systems

These are the systems that give the appearance of symmetry but are, in fact, not. Think of Breathing.  The Inhale and Exhale are mirrors, yet action triggers the transformation of O2 into C02.  Another example is our arteries and veins.

Type IIA: Uses closed strings; left and right sides of strings are symmetric.

Like having a dominant hand. Biased. Directional. Specialized.

It’s a system with preference — one side leads, the other supports. Think of writing: one hand does, the other holds the paper.

Type IIB: Also uses closed strings; left and right sides are asymmetric.

One way to contemplate the type II strings is as Twins. I’m a Fraternal Twin

👯 Type IIA vs. Type IIB = Fraternal Twins

•       Both are closed string theories in 10 dimensions.

•       Both are superstring theories — they include supersymmetry.

•       Both describe strings that move in the same number of dimensions.

But:

•       IIA is non-chiral — it's left-right symmetric. (identical twin girls) (You can flip the string and nothing changes.)

•       IIB is chiral — it's left-right asymmetric. (fraternal twin boy girl)

(Flipping the string changes its behavior.)

This chirality is a deep physical distinction. It’s not cosmetic, and it changes how these strings behave, interact, and generate spacetime physics. Take, as an example, the manner in which my twin brother and I gestated and manifested - Fraternal

Heterotic E₈ × E₈: Strings

Similar hybrid, but produces a different kind of symmetry; this version is often used in models of our universe.

The very best metaphor for these strings is the Bagua itself, where there are distinct spins and

Heterotic SO(32): A hybrid that combines diLerent types of vibrations on each side of the string; produces one kind of symmetry group.

•       It’s a 10-dimensional theory of closed strings only.

•       It’s called “heterotic” because it hybridizes two different string frameworks:

o   Left-moving side of the string: behaves like a superstring (supersymmetric).

o   Right-moving side: behaves like a bosonic string (not supersymmetric).

So it’s internally asymmetric in construction — one side supersymmetric, the other not.

But this mismatch is carefully constructed so that the total theory is consistent, anomaly-free, and preserves supersymmetry in 10D spacetime.

In Chinese Cosmology, we call this the 10 Heavenly Stems.  It shows up in the Neijing Tu as a portrait of the Queen Mother of the West, where the Shen within are, themselves, strings.

Truly – it’s incredible how perfectly aligned Chinese Cosmology is with String Theory.

Dualities (Core Symmetries) with String Practice Templates (like cheat sheets / sheet music)

Dualities are powerful relationships that show how very different-looking theories or conditions are actually the same at a deeper level. They reveal the hidden unity of physical laws.

In my work as an Information Architect, these are logic structures we might use to build a taxonomy and create pathways for folks to navigate – like the library.

T-Duality

Swaps big and small. A universe with a large circular dimension can behave exactly like one with a tiny circular dimension — size becomes relative.  We experience this as Afferent Neurons and it would be located in the ‘head’ zone of the Neijing Tu

             S-Duality

S-Duality: Swaps strength and weakness. A strong force in one version of the theory can be equivalent to a weak force in another. What looks complex in one view becomes simple in another.  We Experience this as Efferent Nerves (Motor Neurons)

U-Duality is Orbital

Combines both size-swapping and strength-swapping. It weaves together the different symmetries to create a more complete picture of how theories relate to each other. It’s like a universal key to many perspectives.  We experience this as Blended Neurons (Vagus, Trigeminal…)

Branes

Branes are higher-dimensional surfaces where strings can attach or move. If a string is like a thread, a brane is like a fabric it connects to. Some branes are like sheets, some like volumes, some like solids — all in higher dimensions. Our entire universe could be a brane, with strings vibrating inside it. Open strings can have their ends stuck to a brane, while closed strings (like those related to gravity) can float freely.

Think of this as akin to the Menengial Layers in the Brain – membranes if you will

The wheel you see here is a rendering of the 24 hour organ clock from Chinese medicine, so you can see that any direct connection to this experience requires Imagination, Dreaming, and Contemplation.

Moduli Space

This is the “space of possibilities.” In string theory, different ways of folding the extra dimensions, or different shapes the universe can take, correspond to different “locations” in this abstract space. Each point in moduli space represents a possible universe with its own physical laws

The above rendering is of a perfectly balanced sensorimotor experience according to me.  Meaning – when I was healing my stroke, I held this as a kind of inner map, where the Neijing Tu becomes a representative of the brain itself, and gravity is determined by the logic of Magnets, Bagua, and iChing

Again – fully metaphoric, and I made the rendering PRIOR to learning about the details of string theory.

String Coupling (Strength of Interaction)

The strength with which strings interact  is called the string coupling. This strength can change depending on the context, and dualities often relate strong coupling in one theory to weak coupling in another. This flexibility helps unify different theories and understand how strings might behave in extreme conditions, like inside black holes or at the beginning of the universe.

Fields and Forces

In string theory, familiar forces and particles — like electromagnetism or gravity — are different vibrational patterns of the string. For example: • Gravity comes from closed strings — these can travel anywhere, even between branes.

•     Electromagnetism and other forces come from open strings, which often attach to branes and stay inside them.

So all the forces and particles we know could be just different notes played on the same cosmic instrument.

Reweaving the Cosmos through the Body

In contemporary theoretical physics, string theory proposes that all fundamental forces and particles arise not from point-like objects, but from tiny vibrating strings of energy. These strings, moving through a multidimensional reality, interact through complex topologies, dualities, and symmetries that redefine our understanding of space, time, and matter.

But if strings are the architecture of existence, then what organizes perception?

This is the ground for String Practice: a fascia-forward, neurobiological, and cosmological approach to consciousness, life, and sentience informed by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), contemporary fascia research, and living somatic systems.

The bridge between these domains is Shen.

In Taoist cosmology and Chinese medical theory, Shen (神) is often translated as "spirit" , but this is a conceptual mistranslation in a Western dualistic framework. Shen is not a ghost or immaterial soul. Shen is the coherence of perception itself. It is the form of awareness that arises through motion, breath, tissue, and intention.

When we speak of Shen, we are not speaking of belief. We are speaking of structured resonance. And in String Practice, Shen functions as the modulating bridge between theoretical physics, embodied anatomy, and symbolic consciousness.

From Strings to Nervous System: A Dimensional Practice

Chinese Cosmology and Chinese Medicine are fully void of anything ‘Nerves’.  Rather, the Brain is contemplated as the Sea of Marrow, and nerves become Vessels (which then would also include something like arteries and veins). Rather than force any system to be something it is not, ZitterbartEscherBach uses logic to create bridges between and among componets.

In this model:

•       The Brain's three meningeal layers form the M in M-theory: dura mater, arachnoid mater, pia mater.

•       Cranial nerves I–XII become the dimensional “strings” through which information enters the field of the body.

•       Fascia is the living matrix that connects and modulates tension across all levels of perception.

•       Dualities (afferent/efferent, sympathetic/parasympathetic, left/right) are rendered as the somatic analogs of S-, T-, and U-dualities in string theory.

This is not metaphor. It is architecture.

No Shadow Only Shen

The phrase No Shadow Only Shen names a specific architectural concept: that the three treasures of Taoist internal alchemy — Jing, Qi, and Shen — can be rendered not as esoteric energies but as axis-based perceptual functions in relation to the cranial nerves.

Treasure Axis (Plane)                               Function

Jing                 Transverse Flatland – X – Neon yellow

Qi             Coronal                 Interfaces – Z  – Neon Magenta Shen   Sagittal                  Salience – Y – Neon Cyan

In this mapping:

•       Jing governs the stability of life — carried in fascia, embodied in fluid, spiraling through the transverse plane. It would be the Daytime Experience

•       Qi governs movement through consciousness — lateral motion, interaction, breath, and rhythm. I would be the First Person Perspective

•       Shen governs the vector of sentience — all autonomic functions, dreaming,, direction, the temporal flow of experience. This is the Dreamtime Experience

The following are renderings that display the weavings between Biology, Cosmology, and Shen. I Share them here, so you can see that this is a rich and dynamic system that relies on simple geometries and consistent mappings.

We will be going through the cranial nerves in order, and during the progression, I’ll share science, cosmology, and artworks so you can learn to contemplate you brain as WHOLE and you as Unique in all spacetime
